Although in today’s world, happiness has become a ‘pursuit’, in reality, it is the normal state of a healthy mind. A prolonged sad state of mind can disable a person from following routine and responsibilities and can induce suicidal thoughts. The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised a red flag about depression, a common mental disorder, as the second cause of disease burden and a leading cause of disability in the world. Depression can lead to suicide, which is responsible for killing over700 000 people every year. Approximately 280 million people in the world have depression and among them maximum are women. Women are twice as susceptible to suffering from depression as compared to men. Due to a lack of financial independence, unequal power relationships in societies and families, and social stigma related to mental disorders, women with depression and other common mental disorders are less likely to get proper help and hence end up leading a miserable life.
